Bridgeport Magnetics. firmly subscribes to the principle that quality of the product begins at the design stage. Every transformer and choke we design begins with an analysis of the customer's needs and requirements, using the in-depth knowledge we have gained since Tortran Inc. was formed in 1986. In our production of transformers and chokes, we choose the basic material and components to meet or exceed the safety standards specified in the UL, CSA, European and IEC standards. Whenever available, we use UL and CSA listed materials and components. CE marking is available.
We make our own toroidal cores with M3 steel, which accepts a higher flux density than the M4 steel commonly used in the industry. Our design rules normally do not exceed 15 kilogauss, which gives us a comfortable safety margin before the core reaches its saturation point. For some applications, we use even lower design limits. Our toroidal core is wound from a strip of grain-oriented silicon steel. Thus the grain orientation is parallel with magnetic flux in all parts of the core, giving our toroids the same advantage over conventional EI laminations as cut cores used in C-core transformers. |

Furthermore, because no gaps occur in the magnetic circuit of our toroidal cores, 100% of the steel's fine magnetic qualities is utilized. Additionally, unique to the toroidal core, the magnetic field is contained almost entirely within the toroid. Leakage inductance and parasitic capacitance are also very small. |
Before we wind the magnetic wire onto the core, we cover the sharp edges of the core with UL listed material to protect the wire from cuts. For most VA ratings, we have standardized the use of solderable solid magnet wire. For Class A (105°C) and Class B (130°C) insulation systems, we insulate with Dupont's Mylar® between windings as well as the outer wrap. For higher temperature classes, we use Dupont's Nomex® or similar material. We use automatic crimping machines and soldering to join the UL/CSA listed multi-stranded wire with the solid magnet wire. We also take other steps to make sure that the joint will not break even if the transformer is carried by its lead wire. We hold American, Canadian and International safety standard approvals that permit us to deliver your samples and production units approved without delay or additional cost. Your products can thus be tested to required US and Canadian safety standards without any concern for the transformer or choke. Incorporating our UL recognized and CUL or IEC742 certified transformers will also reduce the fee you pay for testing your products and subsequent safety agency inspector's visits to your facility. For overseas installations, we are thoroughly familiar with the current European and IEC standards, and will design and build to comply with these when requested and provide CE marking. For transformers up to 1000VA we are certified to IEC742. All of our transformers are constructed to meet the dielectric requirements of 3000 volts Hi-pot test between primaries and secondaries for one minute. All transformers are tested for polarity, number of turns, and no-load voltages. Our manufacturing tolerances are ±3% on electrical data and ±10% on physical dimensions. Lead lengths have a ±1/4" standard tolerance. Tighter tolerances are available as options. Our philosophy on quality in design and manufacturing ensures a defect-free product, making final testing virtually redundant. Nevertheless, we maintain inspection, testing, record-keeping and manufacturing feedback procedures. These provide documentation, and guarantee that our transformers and chokes meet or exceed customers' specified requirements, and that our products comply with the guidelines of UL, CSA, European and International safety standards.
